Gyokuro

label_gyokuro_s.pngGyokuro is a type of the Japanese green tea, which is cultivated in special way.

The tea leaves are shaded for more than two weeks at the harvesting phase. This makes L-Theanine in the tea leaves increase, while Catechin (the source of bitterness in tea) decreases, so that it rises to sweeter flavor than any other straight green tea.  The tea also gains a distinct aroma by the shading process.

Gyokuro contains the most L-Theanine among the natural beverages, and relatively high caffeine.  L-Theanine is a kind of amino acid which is proved to reduce mental & physical stress and may lead feelings of relaxation, which also slowdowns caffeine's assimilation.  As a result, Gyokuro bring you relaxation and moderate concentration.  So it is good for drinking when you would like to reboot your energy after lunch, or some advanced users drink it as an approach to meditation.

Brewing Gyokuro needs a kind of technique.  We actively hold Gyokuro events in Europe and provide personal lesson in order to get the people familiar with it.  For basic instruction, please have a look at the following video.
